We had some very bad news last week, my mum's best friend living in the Upper Highway area was tied up, beaten, and murdered, by robbers who had broken into her house.
It shakes you to the core when it hits close to home, and does make me think now some of my previous comments painted too rosey a picture.
This happens over there, when they break in and someone is there they inevitably turn violent. She was in her late 60's and absolutely no threat yet they chose to kill her, the mindset is the scary thing.
It's not a reason to not go, but definitely make sure you live in a good complex and take security seriously.
It's ultimately a good country, but it also has a very violent side, the robbers of this nature dont value life the way we do.
This news has tainted my view of ever potentially living there, and also means we wont be going on holiday there again for a while, whereas it was pretty much a yearly thing for us.
I dont doubt we'll be back, but it's the sort of thing that you hear from others when you go over there and dismiss easily because it hasnt directly affected you, when it hits close to home it's a different feeling altogether.
