There's been quite a few threads on where to stay for the Full Moon party, maybe have a look here. I personally always recommend Stonewall bungalows overlooking the beach of Haad Rin, because we had a great time staying there.
As for Full Moon enjoyment, leave valuables in the hostel and go with the flow. I actually much prefered the nights before the official party, because there were already lots of people, everyone seemed relaxed and partying was a lot more 'civilized' than at the night of the Full Moon.
So, good choice to get there a few days early ;).

No worries, latarina if you haven't heard about the Full Moon party. It's basically a party held every month at Haadrin beach on Koh Phangan in Thailand to celebrate the Full Moon night. Apparently it started off as a small thing, but now there's thousands of people each month, partying, dancing and getting wasted... It's good fun, but as mentioned before I prefered the nights before the main event more than the actual party.

Fascinating. But I suppose it really did mold itself into something else as the years passed, huh? Thanks Steff!

theres an amazing place called Seagarden.. if you walk to the drop in bar along then beach then turn right & walk up the track towards the 'main road' its dead ahead on the other side of the road - amazingly big bungalows for 500Baht per night, you can fit like 4 people in them.. think it might be a bit more expensive around full moon time tho.. we were there for a half moon & it was awesome!!

Have a fab time.. :)

I'll be at koh samui this june and would also be going to the full moon party... is it better to commute from samui (going in the late afternoon and returning next morning) or is it better to stay on koh phangan itself? 1st timer here! Hehehehhee

How do you find out when Full Moon parties are on? I so want to go to one. I will be in Thailand from June to July..

Well.. I'm not too sure.. what I do know is, in June the full moon (the moon NOT the party) will occur on the 18th! So I suppose the party will be around the same time.. give or take a coupla days! *grin* I'll be there between the 16th to the 23rd... I'm not gonna miss it this time! Was in Koh Samui last March and missed the full moon party by a few days...
