Hi am leaving for Vietnam in 2 weeks via Bangkok .. ive been to both places before but did it a different way .
Am landing in Bangkok on the 26th of may and have a return flight for the 5th of august , i will only be in bangkok untill i get my Vietnam visa in Bangkok and arranged a flight to vietnam .. My worry is , i dont have proof of leaving the country within my 30 day visa in thailand (as my return flight is a later date) ......Also will ??? i get a Vietnam visa quick and easy in Bangkok (and how much will i pay) the consulate wanted £50 including postage in England , considering i paid £15 in cambodia last year i think its a rip off with the fees you pay .. Dont get me wrong am not going to bangkok just because of the visa fees , it worked out a lot cheaper with the flights also :) ..... Any help would be great .

Thanks .

If you're flying into Vietnam from Thailand, you could get the e-visa beforehand and you'd be all set. I did it recently and it cost me US$ 25.99 + 25.00 on landing in Saigon. There are several agencies in Vietnam that handle this (VOA or Visa on Arrival) - VN Immigration lists your name on an approval letter which is scanned/JPEG and emailed back to you, you print it and bring it with you when you land in Vietnam.
This is the place I got mine - they give excellent service and you pay either by credit card or directly from a bank account (cheaper but slower - 6 days):

Paul,
You can get your VN visa in BKK in one day, but it will cost you. Fast costs more when obtaining a VN visa. Figure at least $70 for one day service. I was quoted 2,400 baht for one day service. No bargain. If you can wait 2-3 days, the cost does go down. Say 1,500 baht. One other option is to fly into Phnom Penh, obtain your VN visa there. Then take the bus over to HCMC for $12. The flight to PP is cheaper than flying into either HaNoi or HCMC. It will cost you another day, but you have plenty of time. I used this company for my VN VOA. Costs were $17 for the approval letter and the $25 stamp fee at Tan Son Nhat. They may have a way to pay w/o using a credit card. Worth an e-mail to find out. This will be a better option than the BKK VN embassy.

You are supposed to have an onward flight within 30 days if you accept the free 30 day entry permit when arriving in Thailand. However, the Immigration officials rarely ask western visitors for onward travel documents. You do have a return flight, that should satisfy if you are asked. Good Luck.
