I spent my 21st birthday in London during the Great British Beer Festival. Haha, that was a great way to celebrate. I discovered Red Dragon ale here. Amazing stuff I must say.

Thought i would start this thread up again, as i've just celebrated my 26th birthday on Fraser Island (Oz) doing some 4x4 driving.

Spent the day getting use to driving our little 4x4 car (Suzuki Jimny) along the beaches and over the dirt tracks. Then in the afternoon my girlfriend and I put up our little tent and prepared a birthday meal, consisting of soup, pasta and birthday cake. All was going well until 11pm when the heavens decided to open, and our tent decided it wasn't water proof resulting in gallons of water leaking into our tent. After a brief discussion, we agree it was best to sleep in the car. so for the next 8 hours we tried to sleep, but was pretty hard as our legs were around our heads and the noise was so loud!
To top it all off we couldn't see any of the hot spots (Ship wreck, Lake Mekenzie etc) as the rain was soo bad, so ended up going back to the barge to get some sleep. Hahaha.

Looking back it was quite funny and a pretty unique birthday.:)

I actually had a conversation about this with a friend yesterday, that for the past 6 years I've never spend a birthday at the place where I live. He then wanted to know where I was instead and I did remember every single birthday, because it has always been so special! Sure, it might be strange not to be at home with your friends and family at first, but I always was with one or even more people I love, so I never felt lonely. Last year I spent it in Istanbul with my best friend and I will never forget how she had organized a cake and cocktails in a bar for me. On top of that everyone was singing 'happy birthday' and was partying with us. Amazing times !
This year I'm continuing the tradition and am going to Greece with a bunch of my friends ;). Can't wait!

I've actually just booked another birthday trip for this year. Will be spending it in Croatia with my boyfriend, yay .
And my 30th last year on Santorini Island in Greece was one of the best ever, had a blast with my girlfriends. I can therefore definitely recommend birthdays while travelling.

Last year for my 22nd i was in Queenstown NZ, i was four months in to a 12 month rtw trip. I had made quite a few friends whilst in NZ but most ppl had moved on from the Queenstown area. It was a beautiful sunny day i took a walk through the park and got the cable car to get some awesome views of the area. Though i wimped out of the bungy jump it was a memorable birthday as i was on my own at that point i thought i needed to go out, i got chatting some guys at my hostel and i tagged along with them they new the best bars as they worked there and we did a massive bar crawl, ending with a fergburger. I cant remember the ppl that well but they made my birthday a wild night and i appreciated massively. i may not have a birthday card from that year but i had a massive hangover and some funny memories!! This years birthday was spent at home with friends and family but i have to say that i missed my friends from my travels immensly. Next year im not too sure!!

I spent my 40th birthday in New Zealand, something I had promised myself for years I would do if I could afford it. I certainly couldn't afford to when I was 22, in fact I couldn't even afford a holiday in dear old Blighty then. You youngsters who can afford travel the world so young have never experienced a recession, it's going to be a shock for you when it really kicks in next year.
