I'm doing a RTW in September, and wish to get to India. The plan is to get to Thailand from there. Has anyone made the trip by land? I know it would be difficult to make it through Myanmar at present, but could you go through South China. Or has anyone nother suggestion of how to do it?
If you want to travel overland, you have to go through China indeed. The border of Myanmar with India is closed. I do believe the border of China with India is closed as well, so that means you have to go to Tibet and down to Nepal and India. I am not familiar though if things are ok yet in Tibet and if permits are given to travellers again.
Looks like Tibet is out of the question too from what I can see. Anyone any ideas of another way to travel without missing out on too much?
I saw cheap flights to Chennai and then on to Bangkok, is it worth going there? Or is there any other stop off along the way, so we don't miss out on something worth seeing, that wouldn't be too expensive.
Myanmar is not even possible without the situation at present. You can only fly in and fly out (landborders are closed). There are also cheap flights from Kolkata to Bangkok (160-200 euro). Maybe you can Also fly from Dacca in Bangladesh but I am not sure if that is cheaper. U don't miss a lot if you avoid Myanmar at the moment, it is one big disaster there (and the regime is criminal). You could try indeed to travel via Nepal to Tibet. But I am really not sure that is possible because its only possible to travel to Tibet with package tours and in groups (please ask for updates on this). And I dont think its allowed to travel independant to Tibet.
