My friend is planning on flying from London to San Fran in late July and then flying out from Las Vegas back to the UK in mid August.
Are the San Fran and Vegas airports his best options to fly into or are there other airports close by that would be cheaper?
Many thanks for any advance you can offer in assistance to this.
Your friend may want to see if flights into Oakland are cheaper than SF as both are near the city. As for Las Vegas there really is only one major airport but you can usually get a flight on Southwest Airlines from SF or Oakland to Las Vegas for about $50 when they have their specials.

Generally, you are better off trying to go into SF since you can get a nonstop flight from London to SF, but not so to Oakland.
I agree with LadyMacwil on the flights from Las Vegas, though. Generally it is best to get a RT to San Francisco from London, then a RT from either SF or Oakland to Las Vegas. It will take you awhile to connect back through Oakland on the return (so SF is preferable for the trip to Las Vegas also), but if you have an extra day scheduled in the Bay area on the return, then it wouldn't matter which airport you came back to).
You could go from Las Vegas back directly (either through Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, New York, or Washington, D.C), but the cost would probably be more than doing as suggested above.
