Hey there
Just wondering how the great ocean road is, if you can take any kind of vehicle. Also any other helpful tips for the road would be great :)

a truely amazing experience, without a doubt the best coastal scenery ive seen, and ive travelled some coasts in my time! ... your not restricted as to what type of vehicle you travel in, the only issue we had was when we were travelling out of Halls Gap in the Grampions National Park and that was that a huge tree had fallen across the road blocking it, but thats just one of those things.

we rented a 3 birth campervan for our 7 day escapade, and we got away with only having to stay in a camp site for 1 night and thats only because it was easter sunday and the police were checking every car park in the area we was in.

be sure to take your time and take in all the spots, visit every look out point on your journey, you may find some hidden gems, also be wrned we personally found the 12 Apostles alittle overrated, it was more or less our last stop so we anticipated something unreal, far from it, only around 300 tourists looking at average stacks, i persoanlly found the Bay Of Islands alot more pleasing to the eye which is just outside a small town called 'Peteborough' - awesomer little town!

have a blast!

This is a fantastic trip - it has to be some of Australia's most beautiful coast line. You could take any kind of vehicle. We just had a small rental car and stayed at medium priced motels along the way. The road is good.Geelong is nice near the start, especially the waterfront which they have recently renovated and it has an old carousel and some interesting carving things. You are inland for a bit but once you hit the coast it is just lovely. You go through Lorne - which is very nice. The Great Otway Lighthouse is well worth the slight detour. We didn't have time to go inland to the Otway treetop walkway but it sounds interesting. Once you get to the twelve Apostles area you need time as there are quite a few short walks you want to do.Port Stephens was a lovely place to stay not far on from the Apostles. Port Fairy is really beautiful. You'll love this trip. Have a wonderful holiday.

I did a 2 day/1 night tour with greyhound which was really good. it's a stunning drive, particularly towards Melbourne, so if you have limited time stick to this end.

i took an organised tour and had a GREAT time!! then went back to Melbourne and rented a car and did it all over again with a friend i'd met on the tour, both times were fantastic!
you learn more with the guide, see more obsolete things, but more freedom on your own.
you're choice, either way its soooooo coool!
