Hi can anyone tell us what to budget for our 6 month rtw trip -
Thailand/Vietnam 10 weeks (bungalows on beach type accom, street food)
Bali 6 weeks (as above)
Australia 6 weeks (hostels that cater for babies, basic food)
Fiji 2 weeks (beach accom, street food)
Hong Kong - 1 week (basic accom/food)
LA - 4 days (I know this will be exp!!)
We are - two adults and one child (18 months by then)
We're hoping to get away with about £8000 - will this be enough? We have booked our flights already so that's not included.
I just hope you're not taking that 8K in cash? Almost impossible to answer this question without an accounting degree - just be sure you have backup credit cards that actually work.
I would suggest that San Francisco would be far more enjoyable than LA - no travel problems/good public transit there/better food - in my opinion LA is just one continuing suburb/series of shopping malls, etc. + the largest system of expressways in the world!
I agree with Daawgon.....SF is better than LA!
As for Hong Kong, I think a week may be a little long. I was there last summer and I stayed and my friend's appartment. There's lot too see and expericence in HK but a week may be too much.
I highly recommend that you get a Chinese visa head of time and head to the province of Guangdong and visit Shenzen and Guangzhou. Mainland is way different than HK.
Macau is also a great day trip from Hong Kong and you don't need a visa.
Agree w malmn
And I think you don't need to stay in Australia for 6 wks unless you have a good reason (visiting friends...) - it's very much another western country and the Aussie $ is getting quite strong.
Bali is also comparatively costly. It's more enjoyable with your budget to stay longer in SE Asia - Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos...
I think we might just go to HK for 3 nights, I thought Bali was meant to be cheaper than Thailand?? We are getting married in Bali so thought we'd have a good 6 weeks out there and my Fiance loves to surf!!
I think overall we will need about 10,000 GBP, especially as we will be in oz for 6 weeks, Fiance's cousin lives in Perth so we're staying with him for half of it.
