When I go travelling at the end of the year I'll be arriving in Bangkok on 29th December... Should we stay in Bangkok for New Years or head else where??

Nici, it's all going to depend on what you are looking for. It wont matter too much as far as pricing is concerned, most of the hotels are going to have raised rates and some are going ot have the compulsary dinner charges included. If you are looking to party, well you can find that most anywhere as well as the reverse, nice, quiet and laid back. Even in Bangkok you could find nice quiet places. If however you are concerned about prices, then I would suggest outside Bangkok.
Good luck

I am going to suggest you head down to Pattaya for NYE. Fireworks over the ocean and a great party atmosphere. You will need to book something over these dates. This is the peak of high season and the city will fill up. Take a look at Pattaya and it maybe it is what you are looking for.

Nici i just took a look at your profile and Pattaya might not be up your alley. If i were you would i jump a flight right to Ko Samui and then take a boat directly over to Ko Pha Ngan. Ko Pha Ngan is the big back packer island and known for the full moon party. On the Beach of Hat Rin they throw something similar to the full moon party for new years. It will be filled with young back packers from around the world looking to party. I just wrote a big sections in the wiki guide about Ko Pha Ngan and the full moon party so you should check the articles out. You might want to make reservations before you show up though because the place fills up pretty fast around the time of big parties.
