Hi,

We are 3 girls travelling around Thailand and want to travel into Cambodia and possibly Loas.

After doing a bit of research a friend suggested travelling along the Mekong River from Loas into Phnom Penh.

Has anyone done this before? Is this a good route or can you advise any others?

Any comments would help,

Thanks

I haven't done it before, but my friends recently took a trip in this area and went down the Mekong. They wrote about it on their blog.
I hope this helps you plan!

Hi!

It's possible to do it, and I've heard great stuff about the slow boats. Do note though, that whether it is possible or not depends on the river level; that end of the mekong can be low at times (i.e. the middle and end of the dry season), making it almost impossible to pass through. In that instance, you will be better off taking a bus down. :)

I can't comment on the Laos - Cambodia route but I did the popular 2 day slow boat from Huay Xai on the thai border to Luang Prabang and it was really enjoyable. you can arrange packages in northern thailand which normally include a night's accommodation at the thai border, visa, lunch and boat ticket. you will stop for a night in a tiny jungle town called pak beng (accommodation here not included).
