Anyone has been in San Diego? We're looking for a suitable place to stay for a couple of days on the beginning of october. There's a lot of booking web sites available and good prices but not enough references about these hotels!
Can someone help us finding a place w/ good ratio quality/price in the area? and must attractions in SAN? We'll be there for 2 days.
Thanks
Tao!

Things to do in San Diego fall into six categories--the beach, the bay, the park (Balboa), Old San Diego, downtown, and Mexican visiting.

My suggestions is you should stay either near Mission Bay (my preference), downtown somewhere near the Gaslight district, or on Hotel Circle (alongside Interstate 8 just east of Old San Diego).

The cheapest is the last of these. The most expensive of these (but also most enjoyable) is the first. Hotels on the bay that are great are the San Diego Hilton, and the Bahia Hotel. There are lots of hotels at the other two locations--just check Expedia. For a good cheap place, I'd recommend the Comfort Inn near Old Town.

Lastly, if you really want to go upscale stay either in Coronado or in La Jolla. The Hotel del Coronado is the single best known hotel in San Diego--but it is old--and not for those looking for any kind of action.

As far as things to do in San Diego: it has the best zoo in the US, it has the original Sea World, Old San Diego is fun--and has great restaurants with a busy nightlife--as does the gaslight area. The San Diego Wild Animal Park is around 30 miles north. And Balboa Park has three theatres as well as the park. There are lots of great golf course and spas locally (Torrey Pines, La Costa), and taking a day to go south to Mexico is also fun. I suggest bypassing Tijuana and going to either Rosarita Beach or Porto Nuevo. Near Rosarita Beach in Mexico is the Mexican Fox Studios--where they filmed "Titanic" and "Master and Commander"--they have an amusement park there with lots of stuff from these (and other) movies. Porto Nuevo is known for its 17 restaurants majoring in lobster dinners and for its cheap, unusual shopping.

Enjoy.
