Euro seems the best to me. Sterling wouldn't make sense at all. Cheques cost a fortune to cash and in my opinion just create more hassle. Any UK ATM card should also be usable at Spanish ATM's, so aside from maybe 100 EUR or so to start you off I don't think you need to take any cash at all... ?

Thanks for that!

What I meant by sterling was to get it exchanged over in Spain, wouldn't I get more for my money that way? or do you still think to get it exchanged here would be better.

I don't think it would matter much to be honest. And if it did, I'd think it would be slightly cheaper in the UK than the other way around, but not 100% sure as it's been years since I actually exchanged money before a trip. I just usually take my ATM card and don't bother with any cash. Causes some problems in remote countries, but in most of Europe you're fine.
