Bergerac has a nice castle that's worth visiting; also consider renting a car to appreciate the wonderful surroundings. The Dordogne area is beautiful, though very touristy.

You probably know that it's in the heart of wine country so a lot of it's appeal is connected with it's local wine industry. The Montbazillac wine is a sweet wine (my preference) and rather tasty. I'm not sure how many varieties of it there are and such as I'm not exactly a wine connoisseur but there are plenty of places that will offer wine tastings. Duck is a popular meal in the region. When I was there I had this grilled duck w/sauce with Montbazillac wine and it was perfect together. Grotte de Font de Gaume is a cave with prehistoric paintings througout and is one of the main non-wine sites of Bergerac. The other is an old castle that houses a prehistoric museum of sorts. There is also a tobacco museum as the area is renowned for tobacco as well. In a town like this, you'll want to have a car to drive around in. There are quite a few tourists in Dordogne's Vezere valley due to all the prehistoric sites. So, ancient artifacts, wine & tobacco are the main points of interest.
