Flagging multiple messages as spam

Travel Forums System Talk Flagging multiple messages as spam

Would it be possible/feasible to have some kind of facility whereby multiple messages could be selected at the same time to be marked as spam? It's often the case where spammers post more than one message at the same time, and it would be great to not have to go into each individual post to flag them.

Just to be clear, are you referring to forum posts, or private messages?

I'd guess he's referring to forum posts.

It's can be a pain flagging one post, then checking the profile to see their other posts and flagging those individually.

Having said that, some of their posts may be legit so I don't know how you'd flag multiple posts as being spam.

sorry, yes I meant forum posts.

Most of the time it's fairly obvious which posts are spam, as the spammers who post multiple times normally use the same heading for each one so if you have checked one the chances are they will all be the same. Even if you had to read each one and back out of it before selecting them all, it would still be quicker than clicking on spam and then the reason for each one.

Hopefully after the Olympics we will see less spam, as many of the recent posts seem to be about Beijing accommodation. :)

I'm not sure how easy this would really be to do. It's a lot of power! Some disgruntled Respected Member could flag all of my posts as spam, which could wreak havoc

Here's the thing.. if you flag a few (I think it's 2) posts as spam, it will already stop that user from posting any more entries. That is really the main objective fulfilled. When there are multiple spam flags, I (and I believe most moderators) tend to check through to see if the user has posted any other similarly spammy messages.

But yes, I do see that it would be nice to have a button that allows you to flag someone's stuff more easily - perhaps if they are only signed up that day, it may be a safe enough option to have.

I think a combination of this and the blocking of urls in first 10 posts is a good idea, especially in the lead up to the Olympics (ARGH! by the way!!!).... I was trying to setup a nourl tag earlier Peter and couldn't figure it, so might have to leave that to you. If two blocks inactivates from posting, perhaps there could be a button available that let's you 'block from posting' which essentially flags two posts as spam? Then again, if there are other posts that are spam it's probably good to hide those too. A <24 hour rule should do the trick in 99% of the cases I'd think.

For the mods I don't think it'd be a bad idea to have a 'delete all' button either :)

Peter - isn't this possible already? ie any respected member/travel guru could already mark all of someone's posts as spam if they want to couldn't they?Or were you just meaning that my suggestion would make it too easy for people to do that?

Yeah, just a bit to easy. It would take someone quite a while to flag 3000 posts manually. With the proposed powers, they could do that in a second, perhaps just as a prank even.
