Imported blog onto Facebook as note doesn't show pictures

Travel Forums System Talk Imported blog onto Facebook as note doesn't show pictures

For some reason, the pictures aren't showing up in the blogs imported as notes in facebook (at least not for me). I tried it on my Mac with both Safari and Firefox, and my sister who is using a PC reports the same thing (not sure on the browser she is using).

Thanks.

Hey Greg,

Do you have your feeds set to 'full feed'? Otherwise it will only import a tiny little snippet and that doesn't include any photos.

Which feed setting where? I don't see any settings in facebook, and the only setting I see on TP is one that says 'show complete XML feeds,' which is set to yes.

The full text is there, just not the pictures. I notice the same thing when I look at Eric's imported blog: URL to Eric's post - all the text but no pictures.

I have now tried it on Windows (Firefox and IE) and Mac (Firefox and Safari) with the same results.

Hmmm, that is weird indeed. It looks like Facebook is taking all images and wrapping them in some javascript automatically. Although theoretically I think the aim is that the images do end up showing, it certainly doesn't look to be working right now. It must be a new change, because all my old imported notes were working but now have the same issue. Strangely enough, if you go to one of the images with the wrapped javascript around it (like this long link), it does work?!

I googled around a bit and you are not alone. This definitely appears to be either a bug on Facebook's side or something they have switched off altogether. Why would really be beyond me as I don't see any reason for that (we host the images, so it's our bandwidth getting used)... I think I'll file a question with their support to see what is said about it.

Quick update. Got a reply from Facebook support who recommended clearing cookies and cache, but as I suspected that wasn't the problem. So have replied and hope to hear more from them soon!

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. Here's what Facebook support just sent me:

We are aware of the problem that you described and hope to resolve it as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience. Let me know if you have any further questions.

So fingers crossed they'll have it fixed soon. It affects ALL imported notes on Facebook, regardless of where they originated, so there should be more people running into this problem.

Well, the pictures are back. However, now I notice that posted videos aren't showing up. not sure if they ever did, but they aren't now.

Unfortunately, this has always been the case :( They're very particular about letting Flash play on their site automatically, so I'm pretty sure it's the case regardless of if the video is hosted on Youtube, Flickr or elsewhere... bit of a bummer!! They get the code, just strip it out/inactivate it on their end :(
