I have used several hotels in the Sukhumvit Road area, near the Nana Skytrain stop.

Couple long shots you can try. First if you are NOT planning on having a date for the night the Atlanta Hotel is better than you might think. http://www.theatlantahotelbangkok.com/directions.php

Old standby, Suk 11 Hostel: http://www.suk11.com/

Several hotels on Sukhumvit Soi 11/1. Bangkok Inn: http://www.bangkok-inn.com/

President Inn and Business Inn are also on that same soi (between Sukhumvit Road and Swiss Park hotel.)

Good luck.

thanks very much for that productive response...

karazyal, are these the cheapest options that you know of in the area? im only going for a night so i just need somewhere cheap to lay my head. suk11 seems to be the cheapest but they dont let you check in till 12 and il be arriving around 6am, they might not be strict on this though.

Sorry, I had nothing productive to offer as I, like many, have never ventured further than KSR for accomodation in my 10 or so visits to the city. Just thought I would say something sarcastic instead in hopes that someone might find it amusing.

Bangkok Inn and the President Inn will be around 1000 baht or less.
The Business Inn has a cheap 600 baht room. This room is real small, does have air and a private toilet - it is referred to as "no window" room. I have used this - some people complain that it is not up to their standards but the sheets appeared to be clean enough. I only use it from around 2 in the morning to just after 8 a.m. then I move on. You can get a reservation with an email only. BUT - not sure if they will have something real early without charging more. The Atlanta is a nice old fashioned hotel but no girlfriends, no boyfriends, no shack-ups even for Farangs couples!

Business Inn email address had to be removed by order of Forum Honchos! This eeemailll address hotel_receptionATawgroup.com.

You have to specify the 600 baht no window room! Like I said, not sure when they start charging you. You might have to wait until someone checks out of a room. In the mean time you could walk about a minute to the President Inn and ask for their cheapest room, was 690 baht 2 years ago, probably a little more now.

Good luck.

Hi,
if you don t mind to travel every day 20 min longer by skytrain (BTS) you can take very ok place in suhomvit soi 97, near last BTS station (on nut). It comes 500 bath per day. Name of the place is romance. For that money you have clean place with private bathroom, wireless net... etc. The standards are much higher for same money comparing ksr

I back up karazyal's suggestions around Sukhumvit. Bangkok Inn is decent but pricey (if price is a factor) and it is 1000 baht a night. The Atlanta is decent, has computers, a good restaurant, and you can find a room for 600 baht. Mind you, the Atlanta is usually booked far in advance, and they only take faxed reservations, so be prepared with an option B if you arrive and they are full.

If you want to stay in the Sukhumvit area, there are also plenty of cheap deals a few hundred meters down soi Nana (Sukhumvit soi 4), though you have to pass through the main bar area at the beginning to get there. Here, you should be able to get aircon, cable TV, hot and cold sowers and a decent bed for 600 baht - and there will even be windows.
A good trick for looking for hotels close to the clubs and restaurants of interest, should you decide to stay longer, would also be to go to [snip]. They will show you the hotels, restaurants, clubs and whatever else you are interested in on a map, making it easier to find the area that you would prefer to stay in.
Enjoy amazing Bangkok!!
