A house in Croatia to rent?

Travel Forums Europe A house in Croatia to rent?

does anybody out there know where I might rent a house cheaply (to finish writing a book) for October, November and half December this year?

Preferably on one of the Dalmatian Islands but I'm not fussy so long as it's reasonably quiet.

Any input appreciated

I reccommend the Island of Rab, bordering on Kvarner and Dalmatia regions; more specifically, I reccommend the town of Rab, which is the biggest center on the island. In those months it has the peace and quiet, very relaxing atmosphere, and resonably mild, pleasant climate (for that time of the year). It has a very reliable ferry connection to the mainland and you can basically find everything you need (food, clothes, etc.) right in the town.

The landscape is wonderful - the sea, forests, a huge city park, karst/rocky mountain, lots of pictoresque coves with rocky (on the south) and sandy (on the north) beaches, good walking, hiking and biking trails...basically, you have everything in one (relatively small) place. And of course, there is the rich historical component, as well.

I live in Zagreb, but go often to Rab, so I can give you details about the place if you're interested.

As for the accommodation, below are some links to get you started, but if you seriously decide to go there, I may be able to halp you with finding/choosing the house or appartment (I can also hook you up with a tourist agency which can do the search for you).

Just to be clear on terminology: "Appartments" are parts/flats of family houses for rent, and while it may be tricky to find an entire house for rent (because a family that rents it usually lives right in it, or the house gets closed for winter season if it has no heating system), it's probably easier to find an appartment (for example, an entire floor of a detached family house) for rent. In any case, private accommodation like that is a good, clean and cheap choice. A few of the hotels are open in winter - those with heating - and their prices are pretty low for that period. Hotels also may have appartments or bungalows for rent, so that may be an option, too.

Good luck!

I agree! Rab is a great choice during the winter!
