Hi All .....

All new to this forum stuff although i wanted to see if there was anyone who wanted to join me in a New Zealand expidition .... planning on going over in October for 3 weeks and travelling around the North Island first in a campervan (apparently this will not take long) then spending the rest of the time checking out the South Island .... none of my friends are really that keen to come along and thought i might see if other people were in the same situation as me and needed a "travel buddy" .....

thanks

I'm sure you'll find someone tash, but I think you'll be wishing you had much more than three weeks! It might be worth devote those three weeks to one island, then coming back again to do the other. :)

Hey Tash I drove around NZ last year in a Campervan with my boyfriend. We had a great time. The wickedcampers were pretty good value for money. Good Luck with your trip!

Suggest you to spend more time at south island.. don't miss queenstown, milford sound and kaikoura.. enjoy your trip!

hello, if i was you i would jsut do south island doinf both in 3 weeks is a lot of driving and you would miss out on loads of stuff. there are so many things to do and see. I travelled all over and took me and my girlfriend just over 2 months to do south and north island and still missed some stuff!

I agree with Haka boy, spend all your time in the South Island and skip the North! Around Queenstown in amazing!

October is getting into the start of summer so I would book in advance.

Try Kiwi Campers - http://www.kiwicampers.co.nz/ - if you want a campervan as they were great (and a decent price) when I hired from them last winter. Kiwi Campers buy their vehicles from Kea - www.keacampers.co.nz - if you want a brand new vehicle also!

Hope you found some traveling companions.

Edwin

Can only really recommend the South Island, less people more scenery and alot more outdoor adventury stuff to do. As for Queenstown, it is cool but Wanaka is a lot more laid back and the people alot more friendly and only an hour away. If you are going only for 3 weeks I would definitely take the advice of choosing one island to travel around. We hired a camper through http://www.findacamper.co.nz Pretty helpful guys who deal with the main camper operators...

Hey there
Definately not long enough. It took us 3 weeks to do south island in motor van (apollo - great and well priced) and even then we were rushing. You will love it, so make the most of one island at a time, otherwise you are going to miss way too much

Hey Tash. Is there no way you could extend your trip by as little as 1 week or 2. We spent exactly 4 weeks in NZ and hired a van from start to finish. I noticed a lot of the others put how 3 weeks is not long enough but if you planned your time carefully you will have time to see a lot of amazing stuff on both Islands. Sure you may miss some things but will for sure get to see most of the highlights. Also in my opinion the north island should not be written off as it is also stunning.
Give me a shout if you need any advice

Hi Tashtash1,

I'm also going to NZ 3 weeks but in November/December (22th. Nov. to the 13th. Dec), what a pity!
I would like to travel around both islands with a car or a campervan but I'm going on my own, so I don't think it's going to be that cheap just for one person :( If you decided to change your dates let me know! if I don't find anybody I will take a "Backpacker's Bus" called the Kiwi Experience. They planned diferent routes around the Highlight's NZ.
