I'm really stuck... we want to go on holiday at the end of August but can't decided between Turkey or Dahab in Egypt. If we choose Dahab, we'd do our diving course which would be great for our holiday later in the year to Mauritius. However, neither of us are desperate to do diving in Mauritius as it's our honeymoon and we don't want to be doing too much.
However I haven't been to Turkey and have always thought the idea of mud baths and turkish messages sounded fun.
Also not sure where in Turkey to go?
We're not into a big clubbing scene.. just beautiful beaches and/or water and good food preferably. We're just looking to relax and soak up some sun (but don't want to get bored either!)
Please someone help us decide!
This is a tough choice - but I think I'd go for Dahab just because the sea is so amazing there. The colour and variety of sealife beats anything in the Med. I loved Turkey too, but I think my favourite places were actually away from the seaside there.
Unfortunately we had decided to go to Dahab, and then the flights went up... which is just gutting! So now its too expensive and we're back at looking at Turkey.
Luckily I have been to dahab, but my finace is missing out... we'll hopefully go next year.
Unless those flights come down...
Have you looked at the local red sea flights site on line? Try www.redseaflights.com They do piles of flights from Gatwick to Sharm, which is then a hours drive from Dahab, and usually are pretty cheap. Not sure if that is helpful now as you may have booked for Turkey already but never fear if you have - Turkey rocks! I would not be able to choose between the 2 as they are both amazing and I spent many years running tours between the 2 country's and loved every minute!! In fact, we are going back to Dahab in November for 3 weeks to catch up with all the old faces and dive sites!
Anywhere around Kas, Oludeniz, Fethiye is great for beaches and chilling and turkish baths - why not do your dive course there? Sadly Turkey is so big and has so many things to do and see that spending a short time on the beach won't do it justice BUT you can always go back and do all the other things - especially inland (Cappadocia etc) - that is amazing.
Let me know if you need any info and I can see what I can remember from the old overland days!
I stayed in Dahab in 2006. I really couldnt leave. I stayed 7 days and that was really too short. The athmosphere is so nice and laidback. Its great for snorkelling and scuba diving, some awesome coral. In the background the mountains of the Sinai. The sea looks light blue. You can see Saoudi-Arabia at the other side of the red sea, when u are having midday siesta at one of the dozens of sea-side restaurants/bars. I dont know abt Turkey coast but Dahab is awesome. Its also a real backpackers place and mass tourism has not (yet) spoiled the place. Go Dahab
