My friend and I are looking to go to Europe next year for around 5/6 weeks, and we're having trouble deciding on the right time. We're hoping spring or summer. What do you think are the right months to go to these places; keeping in mind weather, festivals, events, crowds, prices etc -
Well, it really depends on what you want to do and your personal travelling preferences. Also, certain cities deserve more time for exploration, so perhaps cut down on the number of countries so that you get the full experience.
I like travelling in autumn and spring, because the weather is just nice and you don't have to fight with the crowds. Of course some places will close early or there won't be as many activities, but certain things you have to make do, so it's not as bad. I was in the UK in Nov 2006 and it just so happened it was Guy Fawkes' Day, so we let off fireworks and all. Amsterdam in autumn is lovely as well, and given the cool weather, makes walking around the city very enjoyable. But if you want to visit windmills, it's best to go in spring and summer where most will be open for visits and guided tours.
Here are a couple of links:
These range pretty far north to south so I'd say April to May (working your way north) August/September to September/October (working your way south). Cheers!
