Travel Forums Asia Help me decide a short quiet relaxing holiday in China???

Hey all I have been living in China for the last two years (although I haven't seen much of it)! and I will... 'maybe' be moving to Chongqing at the start of September this year. I will have... maybe as long as five weeks or as little as two weeks to kill before I settle down in my next city and bascially I would like a rest somewhere beautiful and hot. I don't want to leave the country due to the amout of baggage I will have with me, so I will be using the fantastic train and bus network here mostly. I would like to find somewhere hot, quiet, beautiful beaches where you can just relax and do nothing (all in the south 'ish' of China).
Do you have any ideas on where I can go?

(Think Koh Phangan in China and that will do for me)!!!

Li Jiang / Beidaihe / Qingdao / Hainan / maybe????

I would second the Lijiang area...there is plenty to do, you can hike Tiger Leaping Gorge (one of the highlights of our 2 year trip). Relaxing in Lijiang is great, it's a really nice town with plenty of good restaurants and hostels to stay in. It's not too cold there either...we were there in December and it was relatively warm compared to the rest of China! It's easy to get to Shangri-La and Dali from Lijiang on the bus also to see Tibetan-like monastaries and architecture without actually going to Tibet. It's a wonderful region of China and was one of our favourites!

Can't comment on Hainan, we would have liked to go there we've heard it has great beaches but we just didn't have time!
