Hi Morgz

If you want to stop at the beaches, east coast of peninsula malaysia is the best place you can go have fun under the sea..the beach are fantastic..recommended island would be redang island, perhentian island, kapas island...best place to dive would be perhentian island..

Places to party would be in KL most of the time, it's located closely to the Petronas Twin Tower (KLCC).. but seriuosly, you can party anywhere in the world...You can just take the Hop On bus and it will take you around KL....

If you enjoy the eastern cuisine, this is the place where you can enjoy almost everything from the east..chinese, indian, middle-east, malay..even fusion...

It was the other post that was against the rules, not yours! :)

I would also go with the Perhentian islands and KL, but don't miss taman negara national and the cameron highlands, and also melaka for a day trip from KL. Tioman island is supposed to be really nice but I didn't go there.

I can definitely tell you good places to visit in Malaysia. I really liked Melaka, the Cameron Highlands, and Penang. The Perhentian Islands are fantastic and beautiful and highly recommended. However, if you want a party beach, then I wouldn't recommend it as the people on the islands are fairly conservative and alcohol is technically banned. Of course you can still get it, but the party scene is kept pretty quiet. I don't know about the other Islands in Malaysia and what the scene is, but I think if you really just want a party beach, then wait until you get to Thailand and hit some places like Koh Phagnan.

true to Degolasse says that the party scene is not really that happening in those areas...most people in Malaysia are not so party people since 70% of the population are Muslim and they are not into such things...alcohol are big No No to the Muslim people and happened to be that people on the east coast of Malaysia are very religious compare to the people in the west coast (more touch to the western culture)...

besides..the true beauty is the scenery.. if you're looking for the party scene, thailand's beach are best party beach in the region...been to phuket, nice place to go....snorkeling and island hopping during the day and party all night long...

Depending on when you are going could be a good way of deciding which coast do - offhand not sure - but I remember when we went the east coast was monsoonal and had heard islands virtually shut down, so we opted for the west coast. From Singapore did Melaka, KL, Cameron Highlands, Pangkor, Penang and Langkawi and from there is short distance to Thailand. Pangkor, Penang and Langkawi are all great party places with backpacker areas. It was easy arranging ongoing transport from each destination. Once you hit Thailand you are not far from Krabi and Phi Phi - and that is worth crossing the border for. Good luck.
