I cannot decide where to go. Either Barcelona or Rome.

I want to go some place where there is a lot of beautiful scenery, museums, parks, and a variety of restaurants.

Both are absolutelly adorable and full with beautiful scenery, museums, parks, and a variety of restaurants.
Let's say about differences - then i'll b easier for you to choose:

ROMA is a big city, where you can find just everything you wish .
City has very rich and prolonged historical background (about architecture & scenery). Endless museums. Vatican city. Squares, fontains, green zones, "hidden" corners just over the the street, etc...
Italian cousine is one of the worlds best - so, no worry and art & museums of Roma are top of the top as well.
Italian coffee and ice-cream - just best in the world! Pizza is good, but pastas are even better, get home-made vine to complete a meal. Public transport is good enough, but while you live in the center you rarely use it.

BARCELONA is absolutely lovely, crowded, very young (there are visitors and citisens of all ages, but it feels young). It's unoficcial. Lovely beaches right in the city. The biggest in Europe Aquarium (worse visit), beautiful Gothic Quartal and, the most important and unique - Gaudi architecture: Famous Sagrada Familia, Gaudi park and my favorite Casa Batllo...
Barcelona is proud Catalonian place, it a bit different then other Spain regions. Variety of restaurants, sure. But i reccomend you dont miss the local dishes in places where local people eat. Probably Barcelona is a little bit cheaper, but it's not a big difference with Roma. Try to live in the area of La Rambla - walk distance almost everywhere.

good luck with making decidion and enjoy your trip!

Tasha,

Tell us when you're going. That's relevant, since Rome in summer is absolutely awful. Hot, packed, smoggy, expensive... if you're travelling july/august, I'd definitely go for Barcelona.

i HATED rome. dirty, loud, smelly... i came home at the end of the day with dirty feet and you could wipe off all the grime frm the city fm your skin when you get home... yuk... the sights are really nic and imporant history wise but i found it an unremarkable city in between these huge monuments and ruins...

You really must have had a bad stay, because Rome can be everything you said but definitely not unremarkable.
And thank god it's loud, because it means it's lively and energetic. I wouldn't like it to be like a graveyard.

Rome is better than Barcelona in my opinion, but they both have their good and not so good parts about them. Whatever one you choose you will not be dissapointed.
