catwong has indicated that this thread is about Vietnam

i got questions... so many..

I'm interested in the museum...but somehow confused..
is the museum in HCM n hanoi the same.. i mean they kind of have the same concept..
but which one..hanoi or HCM..that have more complete.genuine..classic museum?
don't wanna pay for nonsense..and wasting my precious time..if it's the repeat.
i mean..HCM also got war remnant museum..hanoi also got their own air force n army museum...
so so??
HCM museum and HCMC museum...????
I'm still trying to figure this mystery out...
going to vietnam this august..
HCM, hoi an, sapa and hanoi.....

another thing would be..

i'm taking the train..one stop to another...

should i buy tickets for all the stops at HCM?

or should I buy tickets at the stations that I stop for the next trip??

Hi Catwong,

Generally speaking, I think some museums have the same concepts but diiferent details. For example: HCM museum in Hanoi and HCM museum in HCMC or HCM Museum in Hue will be all about HCM, but the details in each museum is different.

I would highly recommend these museums:
The Ethnology museum, the History museum, the Fine Arts museum in Hanoi
The War museum in HCMC

For travelling by train throughout teh country, it's better to buy tickets from station to station as it can be cheaper, easier to buy, and fit your timing.

Should you need further info, feel free to contact me.

Cheers,

Thi

hi,
You can take a trip hanoi Sapa by train.
Hanoi to Hue, if you are interested visiting Hue, and able direct from Hanoi to Da nang(skip Hue) or Hue to Da Nang then take a bus to Hoi An. And next train to Nha Trang or direct to Ho Chi Minh city.

thanks alot.. that clears up the mystery.

starting from south to north :

In HCMC, my target would be:
War remnant museum
reunification muse
cu chi tunnel
Notre dame church
PC building
post office
market
hotel majestic

(HCMC museum, historical museum....)
what's so different about historical museum????

next is I'm still not sure..
should i stop at danang or hue station to go to hoi an ??
which is better..faster..?

In Hoi an:
a place where I want to see the most genuine chinese culture leftovers.. n food.

I want to go merchant house... tay ky house
jap. bridge
chau chau
commu. hall
maybe the beach if more time.

Then.. I have 2 choice here.
either go to sapa first.. then hanoi
I'm thinking of sapa first... spend 3 days there..then spent the rest of the days in hanoi to finish up the trip.

or hanoi then sapa???
take the bus from hanoi to lao chai to sapa... or hanoi to bac ha to lao chai to sapa??not sure..all of this is in lonely planet..

In Hanoi : by priority
presidental palace
hoa b prison m.
museum of ethnology

1 day trip to :
tam toc caves (ninh binh)
van phuc silk village, ha dong

noodle village-pho?
army museum? if i have more time.. for these threee...
air force museum?

also since I'm going in August, it will be raining season right?
i'm not to worried about that..
what I'm worried will the trip have problem going to sapa during raining???
anyone got idea about this??

is Sapa really cold?? should we bring a sweater.. i mean.. i'm so lazy to carry such a big sweater for just one place..

If you want to choose, then I think you should go for War Remnant museum in HCMC. I have not been to Hanoi museums and have heard that they are also nice, but don't miss the War Remnant museum in HCMC.

Rest of the itinerary seems OK.

In hanoi, better save some time and visit Halong bay. Though overnight trip is ideal but daytrips are also available.

I visited the War Remenant Museum in HCMC - it was pretty interesting - bias obviously toward the VC but interesting. In Hanoi there was the Masion Centrale prison - again interesting. I didnt feel both overlapped or that l was seeing the same thing twice.

I definately have to agree - go to Halong Bay its spectacular - try and do a 3 day/2 night trip including an overnight on a junk in the bay - well worth it.

You must go to Hanoi before Sapa since you'll need to take the overnight train (from Hanoi Ga) to Lao Cai in order to get to Sapa. Just go to any travel agent in Hanoi to purchase the train ticket (I paid $25. one way). Bus transportation is provided from the Lao Cai Ga directly to the hotels in Sapa (I paid $2. one way when pre-booked through my Sapa hotel).

I'm definitely not going to Halong bay because it's pretty much the same in my country.

I prefer tam toc caves.. something that is pretty rare to find.

don't understand this..

why can't i directly go to lao cai by train from hoi an...
I don't wanna waste time going to hanoi then wait there for a day just to get back on the train to go to lao cai.
or is it.. the train doesn't continuously travel to sapa.. but a different train between lao cai and hanoi?

hi,
From Hoi An, you take a bus to Da nang and take a train to hanoi, from hanoi you continue take a train to lao Cai(you have to buy another train ticket). Hanoi is the last and the start place for every train from north, from South. have 01 day train from Hanoi to lao Cai and 03(or 4) night train to lao Cai
