I was wondering that should I place my laptop in a transparent ziploc bag or some transparent food bag equivalent and present it to them like that out of the normal laptop carrying case, would they accept it? I'm doing this for private reasons :D
sorrry! i forgot to mention. i meant the people at the airport customs.
Erm, personally I think you would get away with it. But if I were a security type person in a mood I would be wondering why the heck does this guy has his laptop in a giant ziploc bag? Suspicious.
I keep mine in a day pack. It's in a air tight water proof bag. At the airport I take it out of both and put it on the tray they give you. Never had a problem. In fact I usually get a sympathetic grin from the guards as I am usually standing there holding up my pants with one hand as they have removed my belt, standing bare foot and hoping not to expose myself in the process as I have lost so much weight traveling.
In a lot of developing countries I do not take the laptop out. Just put it straight through and then hurdle over the crowd so that it's in sight again through the scanner on the other side.
Can't remember where the laptop out of the bad scare came from. I think it's one of the more legitimate things in that the scanners clearly make out what else is in the bag. Having said that I hope they don't cop onto the fact that explosives would be easy to place in a laptop, with the right skill one could remove components and replace with something else. Hence someone might get suspicious with a giant ziploc bag over the laptop!
Now you have me suspicious as to why you need a ziploc bag over the laptop?
Usually you just take it out of the carrying case and run it through the xray machine... Its not like they turn them on or anything :-)
