I'm heading for an extended trip in South-East Asia in a few months, and I want to hook up with good private guides in a few places. Anyone got any good recommendations? It's also really hard to find the right places to look for these types of individual guides - can anyone point me in the direction of some good guide websites? Are there such things? I've used a private guide in places like Burma and Peru and if you get a good one, you learn a whole heap more and get money directly into the hands of the grassroots tourism folk.

Prospector, where exactly are you going? Southeast Asia is a big place.

Hey - thanks for getting in touch. It's a longish trip around the Mekong Delta countries - as per post title: Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Probably concentrating on Northern Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. Thanks.

Best time to travel to Cambodia is Nov to Jan as the weather is more cooling. I plan to travel around Dec. If you need any guide around Angkor Wat you can visit this site.

Well if your in Vietnam I would defo consider hooking up with an "Easy Rider". Many are located in Nha Trang and they will take you more or less anywhere you wana go in Vietnam on one of their motorbikes, at a good price too. They know various routes they can take you, places to stay at and show you best of the real Vietnam :)

I have to agree with Seany, I got an Easy Rider in Dalat and travelled up the coast, hitting lots of beautiful places off the beaten track...would really recommend them if travelling in Vietnam!!

I just came back from Vietnam. I booked the whole package trip with a small company called Little Vietnam. I had a good guide named Ha. His English is really good and he has a wild knowledge of Hanoi, Ha Long and Sapa. I'm happy to introduce Ha and Little Vietnam to you if you travel to Vietnam.
