Cool Paul has indicated that this thread is about Australia

so I've been in brisbane for the weekend taking it easy, not talking to people on purpose just to have some time to myself. I've basically been taking a vacation from vacation and farm work. So I'm sitting around putzing around on the internet this morning and someone comes up and asks, "does anyone need work." I look around and no one says anything so I say, "yeah, why not?"

she says, "ok come with me." I meet some guy at reception, he shakes my hand, tells me to get in the truck and says, "We're going to be selling strawberries." haha, at this point I'm thinking I'll be going to a market or something. Instead, of selling them l at a market, He has a truck full of strawberries that he sells by walking around store-to-store, office-to-office and asking, "does anyone want fresh strawberries?"

By the time I learn this I'm already in the truck and on the highway. He tells me, "sell them for $6, keep $2 for yourself, sometimes you make a lot sometimes you don't". It seems like he's been doing this a while, so naturally I think he must have some sort of permit or something. He later tells me if I see any police then don't make eye contact, don't sell anything and just keep walking! HA! oh boy!

So we go out to different areas of the brisbane suburbs and he tells me to get out and start asking everyone. EVERYONE! I seen him walk into an adult toy store to sell strawberries! haha

after going around to a few offices, smiling at few cute reception girls, and being nice to some old ladies in the street I realize..."I've only been working two hours and already I made $56!" But at one point I had a cop following me around for a while which slowed me down, so at the end of the day I ended up with a little over $100 in my pocket for about 5 hours worth of work! a few other guys made at least $200!

He asked me if I wanted to do it again for the rest of the week, but i had to say no, he was heading south to the gold coast and ballina. I've already been down that way and I have a room booked here for the week. I'd have to take a bus back up here, so it just wouldn't make sense, plus it's a little dodgy.

I'll just buy food for the week continue to take it easy and find another job next week. At this point I just want to make it through the next month to make it to new Zealand with a good chunk of money. and see fraser island and the great barrier reef along the way.

Hey Paul

Your updates are really interesting and amusing, but can l suggest that perhaps you start up a blog and post your latest escapades there? Then you can even upload relevant photos etc into the blog!

Check it out HERE.

Cheers

Hi Paul,
The suggestion of a Blog is ideal and better way for you to record your travels & interact with those interested.

In the case of this one, you also seem to be sending it to the Travel Advisors for Australia. This results is an e-mail to us. As you are not seeking travel advise, I don't need to be e-mailed of your progress (as interesting as it may be). Otherwise a broadcast the advisors in that manner could be classed as spam!

Good story Paul. Not bad money for an easy (but rather odd) job.

Sorry maba,

I just saw that drop down box and assumed I had to choose something from it. I won't be doing that from now on.

Idunno about starting a blog, I already have a blogger blog or whatever it is, I just post on here when things get really weird and I have a goofy story that someone might find interesting or funny. Just so happens I've a had quite a few of those days in the past week.

Just be glad I haven't told any of the stories about people in my rooms that have peed and pooped in the rooms because they got so drunk. always take the top bunk. ALWAYS!

Hahahah!! Wonderful. That was a good story, brought some sunshine in this dark, mechanical fridge I call work! Hope you a happy tripping!

Hey Paul, I liked your story about strawberries. And a hundred bucks isn't bad for a few hours work. We do tend to have a thing about what the tax man doesn't know won't hurt him. Haha. Have you climbed the Storey Bridge or been to Mt. Coot-tha Lookout - good views from there. Lucky you up in Brissie, it's pretty cold and miserable down in Melbs at the moment.
