Do I need to purchase a return ticket if I have got a working holiday visa? I'm just about to buy my ticket and have been looking at return fares but wondering if I could just get a one way ticket and get my return ticket while out there?? Does anyone know? I just had a look on the gov.com.au website but couldn't find my answer.....

Thanks in advance!

OK, I found this

"You must have access to sufficient funds to support yourself for the initial stage of your holiday. Generally, AUD$5,000 may be regarded as sufficient, but the amount may vary depending on your length of stay and the extent of your travel. You should also have a return or onward ticket or the funds for a fare to depart Australia."

Does that mean I need $5000 AND money for a return ticket or would the $5000 been seen as sufficient, I'm sorry if I seem so anal about all this! Just want to be sure....

Hi Emma, you'll be lucky if they ask you to prove you have enough money with you. All that happends is you go through a very long customs line and they wave you through with a quick check of your passport and documents. Then you go to a small desk, and i mean small desk nothing short of a classroom desk and they print your visa.

Happy travels :)

Hi Emma, If it makes u feel any better ive booked a one way. As long as you have sufficient funds to support the start of your travels and get a ticket back you'll be fine.

Thank you both :D

Also answer another question about my visa, I obviously don't get it till I get over there, just need the ref number for them.

Jason, have you done all this before then?

Nixie, when you going? I'm excited, terrified and nervous all in one!! Been trying to book a cheap ticket, even that's abit of a nightmare trying to find cheapest possible price.

Yeah i have Emma, came back to the UK for abit to sort stuff going back out to do my seasonal work end of July. As for your Visa print the confirmation off the website, and show it to immigration when you land. Also get the address of a hostel any hostel cause you'll have to fill out the green form on the plane, so have a pen.

I'm only booking a 1 way ticket again as well, best price ive had is £726.00 with www.airline-network.co.uk ive used them before and never had any probs. Hope this helps :)

Doing worry about being "excited, terrified and nervous" it only hit me when i was on the plane going out the first time. And though ive been already, i still feel like it now!!

Jason have you check on travel supermarket and STA travel. They are usually quite good for one way I got mine with STA for Virgin for £487.

Emma, Im going in sept on 26th. What dates are you off? x
