I'm so happy for you Emma, that's great!!.. going to Australia, I'd been there back a long long time ago, and it surely is a wonderful place to hang around a couple of months.

I chekcked flights from Turkey (Istanbul) to Melbourne via Turkish Airlines and Emirates, you got yourself a steal for the plane ticket fare!!.. excellent..

As much as I am concerned, Singapore Airlines is OK, if you are not expecting too much luxury.

If you don't mint three stops, for teh return try Emirates, fly from Melbourne to Dubai, then Dubai to Istanbul and Istanbul to Heathrow, if you book it earlier, it'll be a steal for you (the price at the moment, from Istanbul to Heathrow for September is lower than 180 Pounds, forexample)

Either way, have fun!!

I'll keep that in mind, thank you, though at the moment I think Dubai is on the highest terrorism alert for British at moment, heard something last week, but that could all change in a year!

Emma stick with Singapore, i went with them and got to travel on the A380 on my way to Australia. the service was great, even though it was economy, I was well happy, it had only been out a few days. Watch out for the golf course at start of the run when you come in to land at Changi its mad. Haven't been to melbourne yet, but im getting my seasonal work done when i get back and then get my second year. On a farm you can earn up yo $900AUD a wk.

Hi Welshemma, This website should answer your questions. For information on WHV's, click on Visas & Immigration, then Workers, and scroll down to Working Holiday.

All about The Harvest Trail - seasonal work, where to harvest what & when...

I'd advise you to open a bank account before you arrive, there are four major banks.
WESTPAC

ANZ

Commonwealth

National

Unlike the other banks, Westpac is open Saturdays (9-12) and has longer weekday opening hours (9-5).

I agree with Jason, you should have the name of a hostel, preferrably have your first couple of nights booked. A good one is Melbourne Oasis YHA. They are located just out of the CBD and a short tram ride will get you there. If you don't already have one, I'd suggest a hostel card. YHA/Hi offer discounts Australia/world wide and offer great savings on a wide range of products.

Good luck and have a great time in Oz.

Wow, thanks for that Whistler...great info you have given me there, thank you :) Was indeed thinking I would have to open a bank account before I head over, seems to be so much to try and organise! Can't wait though :D

Welshemma, I just realised in my post #16 the link for the Commonwealth bank is incorrect. Below is the correct link.

Commonwealth Bank is the correct one. Sorry about that.
