you can try the Red Palm (www.redpalm-kl.com)... I've tried this one back in 2005 and it was a great hostel...

You can move easily to sunway lagoon from KL its just 20 minutes drive from KL again its Big mall and big water and theme park...you can spend whole day here...

The Batu caves are worth visiting; these are a bus journey out of KL. You could visit the Petronas towers and the Menara communication tower for views over the city. Near the Petronas towers there is a big shopping centre and food court. KL also has some good night markets, some interesting colonial buildings and chinatown. I can't remember the name of the place we stayed in, but there are plenty of budget places, especially around the chinatown area.

If you find yourself at Puduraya bus station (the main one in town), there is a cheap restaurant across the main road which sells what I found to be the best roti chennai in malaysia and its dirt cheap - i have been to KL 3 times and always make an effort to go to this place. it's open 24 hours a day.

The old Portuguese town of Melaka is a couple of hours drive from KL and is worth a visit.
