Am flying to Perth in a month. I was wondering if theres any banks better than others for a traveller opening an account with and what do I need to open one?
Also...do I need to do anything with my Visa? I just have an email and Im assuming I just turn up & its all done electronically?
If your not planning to work in Oz I would suggest opening a nationwide account in UK before you go, they have a debit and credit card(gold card best) thats free to use abroad, you can access it all online or telephone, their exchange rates are good plus you can link it to a internet saving account which offers a reasonable return.
Their system very easy to use, so you can switch money between the three.
Hope this helps, enjoy ur trip
I am planning on working so I will be needing an Aussie bank account but I already applied for a Nationwide one too
Any of the four big banks would be best. National Australia, Commonwealth, ANZ, or Westpac. Its six of one , half a dozen of the other. Possibly Westpac has a little less ATM coverage than the others.
Hi Lilmisstee, most banks are pretty much the same, but Westpac is open on Saturdays and has longer weekday opening hours.

I would suggest ANZ (Australia New Zealand) bank account as this is used nationally in both Australia and New Zealand if you plan on heading that way
Anyone of the banks suggested will suit you fine - just have ur passport / drivers licence with you when you go to setup account.
Also about ur Visa - they should point you to the Visa desk after security check an they print ur visa onto ur passport - took about 5mins for myself at Sydney Airport an never asked for proof of funds or outbound flight
