Travel Forums Europe Gifts for hosts - Norway and Belgium

Hello, I will be traveling around Norway in August and have been lucky enough to get the opportunity to stay with my sister in laws family. Anyone have ideas for gifts I can bring them from the US? They are a big family with all ages.

I will also be staying with a friend's family in Belgium... any gift ideas for them?

Thanks!
:)

The one thing I am pretty sure every Norwegian appreciates is alcohol. It's about 3 times the price of any other country in Europe, so it holds immediate value :) I know the kids would probably not be expecting anything as it's really not common to give gifts like that in Norway other than say flowers and a bottle of wine for the parents. If anything maybe American specific things like weird candy's, certain microwavable popcorn etc. My favourite gifts from the US are things like that that I can't get here. Then again, I know what's available and like it, which they might not?

Thanks for your reply! Besides alcohol, someone mentioned a very delicious local BBQ sauce we have here and maple syrup/maple syrup candy (also local)... I hope that'll do it! :)

Ooh yes, BBQ sauce from the US is a very good idea. I've recently found a place that stocks a good imported one but it's over 2 hours away! Maple syrup is another good one :)

Getting hungry just sitting here....
