AH--but you can't stick a hot tea on the back of your neck to cool down!

Well, you could try but I don't think the results would be beneficial.

my parents would still drink their afternoon coffee (hot, hot coffee!) on really hot days, and i never got how they could do it...maybe that makes sense now?

a few years back in egypt an old man said that the hot tea works better at cooling you down because a cold drink shocks the body and you start to sweat more !?

Yeah, I heard something similar. Apparently that's why really cold drinks don't hydrate you as well, because they're so cold they put your body into shock. But hey, I'm a big fan of hot tea any time of year, whether it's a sweltering 40 degree day or freezing!

i have heard similar. Though i forgot who told me, if you have a cold drink it 'fools' your body into warming you up as your stomach cools, where as hot drinks do the opposite. I have also heard footballers have hot tea at half time, even in professional teams ie Man utd players have hot tea and an orange at half time. It's true.
