In your Hostel room/dorm...

Does this bother you...?

I have... i must have stayed in about 10 hostels during my wee backpacking tour of Australia... and in every room i stayed in there was always at least one couple shagging away...

Wee bit offensive i thought but didn't say anything as didn't want to ruin their little adventure etc.. but nevertheless.....

In one hostel i was in a 10 person room and 3 couples were going at it some nights! One couple used to start in the bed then run into the hallway to finish it off, not like it mattered considering the noise they made in the hallway!

But i have to say i was a bit shocked maybe evena bit jealous at all the goings on, hard to say there... There was also a really conserative chinses guy staying in that room as well, no idea what he made of it...lol

I did meet a girl myself and is obvioulsyone of the main reasons people do the 'backpacking thang' but a bit rude having sex every night in the room...?

What are your experiences of hostel life?

The whole idea of staying in a dorm is completely unappealing to me. I don't mind a hostel if I can get a private room. Sharing the kitchen/bathroom facilities/common areas is perfectly fine--a nice way to meet people or at least feel like you're part of something bigger. But I'm a terribly light sleeper and someone clearing their throat--let alone hearing couples practice the horizontal mambo symphony--would keep me up forever.

And yes, I'd think it a bit rude. To me, it's one of those things you shouldn't impose on complete strangers (unless, I suppose, that's what everyone happily signed up for). But, then again, maybe it's a generational thing and today's 20-somethings don't have any qualms about it.

Still, I prefer to close the door behind me at night for a little quiet time.

boy the stories i could tell ;)
one of the safer ones was i was staying in a rather small 6 bed dorm in sydney when one couple started going at it knowing that most of us were still awake. and bizarely the guy below me started to loudly eat peanut butter out of the jar with his fingers during the whole ordeal. it was a very strange night.
iv tried my best to stay in all girl dorms since then.
i wouldent want to begrudge these couples their fun but i seriously dont enjoy being in the same room as them going at it and theres no way i would do the same.
get a private room.....please :(

Experienced it once in a hostel in Hawaii. The guy had had the room to himself till that night when 3 of us checked in about 2 in the morning. A few hours later he arrived back with a girl and was surprised to find others there. He checked with the front desk but there were no other rooms available so he just made the most of it on the table in plain view of the rest of us. Afterwards they fell asleep in the bunk bed above me but quickly woke up again and found some renewed energy.... I was just hoping the bed wouldn't collapse!! That was the only time though so I don't think it's too bad. Amazing you had it happening that often Andy! Could things have changed that much in the last 5 years?!?

You're not a tad jealous are you Andy?

No, never experienced it and I wouldn't want to - i.e. be witnessing it nor engaging in it.

Well, witnessing it at least

Witnessed it in Poland, Turkey and Spain (I should get better hostels). I think its a generational thing, alcohol dependant. I know many party hostels practically offer this sort of thing, room naming etc.

I ended up staying in one in Portugal, never guessed until I was put into the 'Tea bagging' room

Then again I also ended up in pretty scary all male room in Spain once too

Since then I have avoided Party hostels like the plaque. Not my thing.

Am Falling into tways way. Single room please, good nights sleep. And breakfast included

Im with Tina - l personally couldnt think of anything worse!!

Ive stayed in hostels yes but only in private rooms. Im not a prude but l am over 30 and value my personal space a bit too much!!

Ive not witnessed couples at it whilst back packing - though l have when sharing a dorm room with 3 other girls on a team building course l did at college! And seriously the sex must be pretty dam crap and drunken, to some things are personal and dont need to be shared with others!!

Quoting outcast

What a way to wake up!!!!!!! I have been awoken rudely in many ways before but never in my life has someone woken me by lowering their balls into my mouth!

Whooooaaaa!!! there bwiiian!!!! Never said that's how I woke up!

Just that they put me in a room by that name!

Actually it was in Lagos Portugal whose name I won't mention but it had a similarly dodgy name too. Should have know better. They even had reinforced double sized bunk beds. It was a real club 18-22 type place (no offense) with girls running around half naked most of the night. Which in hindsight is a nice memory but at the time really quite in your face (doh, bad choice of words again )

We ended up staying at a home stay the next night which was cheaper and much less Hugh Hefner like.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a tea bag room?
