Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific OZ update: attack of the dingos...and a british guy?!

so I did the koalas trip to fraser. I figured that the koalas whitsundays was good so... why not?

anyway the group I was in wasn't very talkative except for me and one other guy. so it was not too fun the first day. Then the first night everyone drank a lot as is expected. but we had to camp in an area where we probably weren't supposed to be because we hit the beach too late and the tides came in quick. so we're all sleeping, about 33 people in 12 tents. I'm in a tent with a married couple who are very drunk. she wakes up which wakes all three of us up. then we figure we'll all go to the bathroom so we don't get attacked by dingos. we get back and the tent absolutely stinks! someone or something peed in and/or around the tent. so I leave because I'm sober enough to smell it and it's gross.

I join another tent and a few hours later a couple of dingos come by and start tearing a couple of tents apart and growling at a few people. one was in the tent I was in before! so the british guy starts asking where I was, and then he starts losing it because he thought I left because of him and his wife, then he starts yelling at me and doing a very bad american accent, mocking me saying, "I'm american I think you stink, I'm changing tents, because I'm an american PRICK!" Then he starts threatening me and a danish couple and kicking our tent! anyway I wake up in the morning, apologize for no reason (being american I've dealt with this 3 times before) just to calm things down... only to hear more threats. so then I finally just switch groups. I mean I'm on fraser this is supposed to be paradise.

after I switched groups fraser ended up being very good indeed. rainbow gorge was especially incredible, and no one else went to it! It was like being on another planet! It might have been the coolest thing I've seen in austrtalia!

Also there were no more dingo attacks, although they definitely did check out camp the second night. and the second group ended up being pretty good fun! so all in all I'd reccomend it, maybe not koalas but fraser island defintely. just be dingo-safe! heh

also I should mention we all went to a pub afterwards and me and the british guy sorted things out. so all is well

I am British and think Americans are generally very cool as do most British, hope the occasionally bit of Brit abuse doesn't put you off us...........

well I've been here about 3 months. I partied most of the first two months, and spent way too much money. upwards or $6500. then I worked on farms for 3 weeks and lived for free and made a nice chunk of money back. now I'm done with all of the big things and it looks like I'm just going to relax mostly and not spend too much.

definitely not turned off to british folk. my best friend here is an english girl whom I've travelled with for 4 weeks or so over the course of this trip. plus mostly everyone else is british. I'm even saying things like, "this is a proper meal" or "this is proper outback" or "this trip is well good," "that was well funny," "thus the them as thus the the"
