I don't know what you mean by fast, but it will take at least 4-5 days to get from Athens to Sinai at first thought. 1 day to Istanbul, one day to border with Syria, one day through Syria, one day through Jordan and then to Sinai desert. Most of it by buses, which are good by the way.
Fastest will be Istanbul - Aleppo - Damascus - Amman - Aqaba - Sinai (either by ferry or crossing though Israƫl).

Hi Utrecht!!

well for me fast means one week, so 4/5 days would be great!! i have one mounth so i could get there, have time to spend in sinai and plenty of time to go back..

i would love to pass through Israel, but in that way i could not enter in Syria.. do you kow if there is any ferry to avois Syria in the way back?

Hi Giulio,

If you come through Syria on the way to Sinai, you could go back through Israel on the return home. As for ferries, there are ferries from either Alexandra, Egypt and Haifa, Israel back towards Greece. You are passing through some stunning countries pretty quickly though.... don't you want to see anything in those places? I spent years up there running trips and there is SO much to see and do and the people are amazing.

There are ferries to the Turkish Coast as well which could eliminate the stop in Istanbul - although you would have to be nuts to miss that!! :)

Good luck!

Hi Overlanding!

i would love to have more time to spend in those countries, but i have just one mounth and i think i will spend half of it in Sinai with a friend from Israel, so she cannot travel in the other countries..

and in the end i could not get the visa for syria, cause i am italian but now i am in greece, and the italian embassy did not hucked me up with the recomandation letter!!!so i fly tomorrow to Cairo, pretty cheap, but different!

i will try again maybe in Amman, and see what happen.. if nothing, or fly again or now you gave the tip of the ferry to tukey!!!going up to istanbul, i do not want to miss that!!!

if you have some other suggestion or reccomandation of places i should see, cause you know the area, they are welcome!!

thanks man!!!

There is SO much to see I don't think I can narrow it down for your time frame!

My personal fav's:
Turkey: Cappadocia/Goreme, Istanbul, Fethiye, Kas, Eceabat (for the Gallipoli memorials)
Jordan: Petra, Jerash, Madiba, Dead Sea
Egypt: Cairo, Luxor, Abu Simbel, Dahab (diving)

Get a Turkish Bath, watch a Belly Dancing show (near Goreme is the best one), buy a t-shirt that says "No thanks - my father owns a carpet shop" ;) to keep the carpet sellers at bay, drink too much apple tea and that is just Turkey!!

Just do what you can and save the rest for next time - that's what i think! :) Maybe just do Egypt this time so you are not running around too crazy and do a nice overland up from there next time?!?

Good luck!
Cheers, Tania

P.S. unfortunatelly ferry between Greece and Haifa (Israel) doesnt exist anymore
But there are several daily flights to Athens, and optionally to other places in Greece.
As well Turkey is good connected by air to Israel.

you can enter Israel from Egypt or/and Jordan via Eilat (South).
You are right , Syria doesnt allow you enter there if you have Israeli stamps in your passport.

In Israel, depends of time that u have and your personal priorities,
you have lots of sights - for any taste.
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and old Jaffa, Caesarea,
Eilat & desert around (natural reserves), North: Acco, Naharia, Rosh ha Nikra, Tiberian Sea (kenneret);
The Dead Sea ....
and so on. list in endless and various.
g luck!
