Hi!
I live in Brazil and if you have any doubt about travels please dont be shy!
I have been to Porto Seguro and Fortaleza.
I live in Ribeirao Preto and half hours by bus from São Paulo City

Hey, seeing as your asking I was wondering how difficult it is to find accomodation during Carnival time I've had a quick look and obviously the prices of everything increase by a lot but does everything completely book out?

Hey there,
It depends of where you want to go and where you want to stay during carnival.
Rio and Salvador are packed but even in these cities, you find affordable places to stay.
It all depends on what you are looking for.
In Rio Guide: http://www.travellerspoint.com/guide/Rio_de_Janeiro/
You find lots of budget accommodations.
Wish you a nice trip!
Cheers,
Bruno.

I will be in Sao Paulo in early October... I hear it's not the safest place to be, is this true? Besides Rio, where should I be spending my time along the coast? What other cities/sites are accessible from Sao Paulo?

Any help would be great!

Hey,
Between São Paulo and Rio, you find:

Paraty http://www.paraty.com.br/iindex.asp

Ilha Grande http://www.ilhagrande.com.ar/?sel_lang=en
