Has anyone been to the Bentota area of Sri Lanka? I'm thinking of heading that way next month and wondering if there's plenty to see and do? I know there are lots of water sports in that area, but does anyone know if there are any historical landmarks/sights nearby, or good transport links?

Thanks,

Sarah

I am going there soon Pinkgirlie, so my response is based on research only, but from what I understand Bentota IS on the main railway line, but not all trains stop there!! Apparently Aluthgama (the next town) is where all the trains stop.
Bentota doesn't seem to be a "cultural" town in the normal tourist sense (although it'll be a hell of a lot different to where I come from so thats plenty of culture for me) but I will definitely go and see the Turtle Hatchery down the road at Induwara.
I don't arrive until Aug 28th, so if you can, please post your views on Bentota after you have experienced it.
Cheers

]Hi sarah…..

Bentota nice place to relax and most recommended place to have a water sport . no popular cultural site near bentota , that you have to organize excursion from there . as a visitors you must visit following cultural site.

Kandy
Dambulla
Sigiriya

Apart from that pinnawala elephant orphanage and nuwaraeliya hill resort will be most interesting place of the traveler.

Better have a few days over night trip then you will able to see the all that places.

If you need contact detail of driver living near bentota im happy to recommend d. karnal de silva who was our driver during our visit , made us very happy traveler. just type his name and you will see his contact detail.

Honestly I don’t have a any benefit out of it.

Thanks you,
