Ok, So we're trying to plan a holiday for June 2009, we def want to spend 7 days in Mauritius, as my mum has been there quite a few times and she is desperate for us to go back with her. We then want to see somewhere else, for another 7 days, as the airfares are going to be expensive we want to see a bit more. So we have been told we can combine Mauritius with Dubai, which we're not keen on doing, then maybe combine it with Cape Town, but that would increase the fare from 800 to 1150 each, so a bit over our budget. Anybody got any advise on where we could go, or how we could do it? We were quite interested in maybe madagascar or sri lanka, but have been told that these do not combine on the airlines, but could we make our own way between mauritius and another country and then get our flight back from there. We want the airfare to be about 1000 each.
Any advise would really help! Thanks Guys!!! xxx
It'll help people a lot if you let them know where you are planning to fly from in the world to get to Mauritius. This will make a lot of difference as to where you may be able to fly to.
Internal flights within Africa are normally very pricey so if an extra few hundred is outside your budget expectations forget about buying a flight to Madagascar or somewhere else to join up with your return flight as you will most likely spend a lot more than that.
Sorry... Completley forgot that... flying from Manchester in the uk. xx
The first that comes to mind is actually the one that is closest to Mauritius and apart from some beaches has magnificent nature on offer with green lush vegetation, mountains over 3000 meters, volcanos and is great for hiring a car: La Reunion!
It is probably cheaper to combine those two islands as a return ticket from Mauritius shouldn't cost more than 150GBP

fenella: You could combine a visit to Kenya / Tanzania and to Mauritius. I had a similar itinerary but it was above the figure you mentioned by $150. I had to send my traveling dates in advance to the tour operator so that they could customize flights from Nairobi to Port Louis.
