Just wondering if anyone has journeyed from Thessaloniki, Greece to Kotor, Montenegro? I'm trying to find ways of getting between the two destinations. Also, I believe that there is a bus route available between Herceg Novi and Dubrovnik - anyone familiar with it?

Sorry I can't help with the Saloniki to Kotor part of your query. There is most definitely a bus from Hereg Novi to Dubrovnik which leaves the bus station in HN early in the morning and again in the afternoon. I'm not sure of the exact times but it's not there IS A bus despite what the locals may say...

Thessaloniki - Kotor? Can't be easy... I'm guessing there will be a bus, either through FYROM and Albania (via Struga, which should be interesting if you can pull it off), or via FYROM and Serbia (your best bet, although that will involve a LONG detour via Beograd, because I don't think there will be services through Kosovo). If nothing else you can take a train to Podgorica via Beograd, but that takes >48 hours. In other words, you probably don't want to try overlanding it.

Taking a plane should be possible, too. Probably you'd need to change in Skopje, and bus it from Podgorica, but I'd say that is your best bet. JAT offers a flight from Thessaloniki to Belgrade, that may be something as well.

Hi again, just a postscript to my mail earlier.... it's worthwhile checking - the guidebook series for that area as I seem to remember reading something about problems with visas/stamps between some of the countries concerned. Maybe it's nothing but worth checking all the same.

I also thought of another addition: has an excellent section on the Balkans, including this bit.

Hi, i know it sound stupid but probably the easiest way is to go from Thesaloniki to Serbia (Nis or Beograd) and then back to Montenegro. From Herceg Novi ( and most probably from Kotor too) you have bus to Dubrovnik. It s very close.
Very best and good luck
