I would suggest VIA rail if you're not travelling by car and less expensive than air. If you need accommodations there is something to meet most pocketbooks. Have communted from downtown to downtown via rail a number of times and it's faster than any other form of travel, even car, during the day, workdays.

Cheapest way is bus. http://www.greyhound.ca/en/. Just checked and they quoted a price of $106.79 for a two-way, 7 day advanced purchase fare. As well, they offer 75% on a second ticket, the the price for the two would be somewhere around $150, I would guess. Check with Greyhound for details, obviously.

Via train is much nicer though. http://www.viarail.ca/en_index.html. The views from the train are sweet and it is ultimately more comfortable than the bus. Just checked for Oct 5 departure return on the 10th. Got a price of $299 for both tickets. However, most of the trains on the way back were already selling out on the cheapest fare. The price jumps up about $150 if you can't get the best fare.

Air Canada is currently offering $79 tango fares. These usually don't last long, but if you are flexible in your plans, you may be able to get them. Check out www.aircanada.ca for details.
