Inbox folders

Travel Forums System Talk Inbox folders

I apologise in advance if this topic's been made, did a quick search but couldn't find any similar ones...

So I was looking through my inbox and realised I have quite a few messages from different people. I wanted to sort them into folders but the option isn't available (only the tick box and the delete button). Would it be possible to enable folders or would that be a strain on resources and a pain to work out?

Or to make it simpler, we could have a drop down box to filter by users who sent us messages, like couchsurfing's inbox system. Searching for an old message could take quite a while when you have 35 pages to look for.

That's only YOU, Hien. (Okay, maybe the Overlords too...) The rest of us actually cull down our inboxes and sent messages. Currently, I only have 8 pages to look through - maybe 12 - tops.

Not to be pesky, but can I ask whether this will be feasible? Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in replying to this. I saw this thread title last week, but seeing it already had two answers figured it had actually been answered by Peter (I've been away on holidays a bit ).

Now, regarding the question. Technically, obviously it is feasible, but the real issue is finding the time to schedule this in. We've got some other things being worked on that take most of the development time, and then there's ongoing bugs that need quick fixing which take up anything else. I'll add it as an item in our to do list though as this is obviously going to get more and more necessary the further along we get.

One thing that could be done quickly is to put a 'sort' on the inbox you see when you open your message center. We do this on the blog table of contents for example. That way you could sort that page by author, date etc. The downside is it will only sort that page, not all your messages. Is a quick 'fix' like that worthwhile?

Hey Sam - the sort function would be very helpful for me even if it's just one page at a time. So, I vote yes!

Thanks for the reply, Sam! I understand that it's not a priority for the site, no worries. I just wanted to know if something like this would work. I haven't tried the 'sort' since I don't have a blog on TP, but I agree with Isa that even if it sorts only one page, that would be useful as well. But no worries about implementing it asap or at all.

Thanks again!

This is now done, although I have to say I find it far from ideal because of the limit on one page, but also because it doesn't seem to be able to figure out that any replies on the same page that include RE: in front of them are actually part of the same discussion. It would have been neat if it 'grouped' them together when you sort by subject I'll have to look into that a little more; no promises :)

Okay, lying in bed last night I thought of a way to fix this and it's now done. Works quite nicely if you ask me
