Hiya, I've been in China for 10 days and liking it very much, been to 3 big cities and I desperately want to go somewhere smaller and fresher.. I was thinking to do the coast and go on the beach but been told Chinese beaches aren't great and I will be heading to beach paradise SOuth East Asia soon so..

Where can I go trekking for 3-4 days? Like an Inca Trail in Peru type of thing? Would like nice mountains, temples and smaller towns or villages... Was planning to go to the Yellow Mountains but it turned out to be only an half day trek..

Thanks for your help...

Give Lijiang a try. It's quite a small town but because all the buildings look the same it's very easy to get lost in! The nearest trek is Tiger Leaping Gorge, you can do the trek for anywhere between 1-4 days, staying in guesthouses along the way.

We did a one day trek back in December as we weren't too well at the time and it was one of the highlights of our so-far 2 years trip. The scenery is stunning and the geography is similar to the Inca Trail, best of all you can walk it yourself without a guide.

Lijiang is also close to Dali and Shangri-La which we have heard are also good place, Shangri-La has Tibetan-like monasteries for tourists to visit. There are lots of good quality hostels/hotels as well as restaurants in Lijiang.

Happy travels!

DALI was wonderful... really great!! Really liked it... so cool and hippish and laid back... so different from the (still very interesting) other cities in China...! Lijiang was fine but a bit too fake, manufactured for the Chinese tourists... both places offer pretty good treks.. Thanks!

They really recommand many good tourism destination, but I think you should taste chinese cluture and experience chinese scenery toghther, I recomanded Shangdong Province, places worth visiting are listed below:

1, Qingdao, I have lived in Qingdao for 6 years, I think an island is really good! named lingshan island, in chinese it is called 灵山岛, after that, you can go to Weihai City to wisit a coastal village Stone island, it is a place in nature, but few ever visited due to inconvience transportation, after that, you should went to Jinan, the capital of Shangdong province, Baimai Spring located in Zhangqiu, a county of Jinan, it is recommand by UN, at last, if you have enough time , there are two backup places: Qufu and Tai Mount.

I had been a retailer developer in Shangdong for two years, I am familiar with every city. if you really schedule to be there, I can give you more advice.
