Travel Forums General Talk What is the best safest way for a female to carry $$

Hi all.
Shall be backpacking in a couple of weeks and trying to find the best way for my girlfriend to carry money and cards around with her other than her Handbag? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well I personally go for the money belt that hangs down your outer thigh. I hate the stomach ones. They stand out more than ever these days, well at least it seems to me.

The usual rules apply though. Don't carry everything in one place. Split it up in bags pockets and anything else. Handbag's and backpacking don't really go together. If she is insisting then let her take it, then have a bum bag stashed away and hand it too her as she is being kicked off an elephant for the second time and the Gucci bag is getting a little dirty

Bum bags used to be terrible things, but they are as practical as anything to at least keep a wallet or purse out of a handbag or back pocket.

I also met plenty of girls who stuff their bras with money that is :( ;)

Sorry had to guess you were heading to Asia rather than Europe, hence the elephant thing!

You should carry as little cash as possible, wherever you go. Especially in Europe, where there is an ATM on every second corner. Depending on what fees your own bank charges for withdrawals, I would look into opening an account in one of the countries you plan to visit. Since you're going for 5 months, it may be worth the trouble.

I had a money belt that hung from my neck, which I could put underneath my clothes if I was in a crowded place, or where like a purse over my shoulder when I wasn't. It worked well for me! Also, carry small amounts at a time and keep photocopies of your credit cards in a safe place at home.
