Hi

Staying in Bangkok for 4 nights at the end of September. Would like a nice hotel as will be celebrating a birthday.
Anyone have any recommendation? Someone said that near the river but not on the river can be just as nice but slightly cheaper? Thanks

I just booked the Baan Dinso Boutique Hostel in the Old City, and it gets very high praise. It's inexpensive and small, and I booked at www.atsiam.com.

How much do you want to spend for "nice?"

You can check out the Landmark Hotel on Sukhumvit. It is near a Skytrain stop, using the Skytrain gets you around town pretty easy. In this same area you will find travel agents for tours, restaurants & bars, malls and street vendors.

The Asia Hotel is not too bad, cheaper than the Landmark and in a mostly bar free area. The Asia is right on a Skytrain stop. Easy walk to Phetchaburi Road for shopping, street vendors, malls, mini garment center, etc.
