Hi, i have a visa to work in canada for a year (through bunac), I will be arriving in Vancouver early sept and have no work arranged (i do intend to find work quite quickly-i just dont know how easy this is). I dont really know anyone who has done this for, and i was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how much money i should be taking just to start me off?? Also is there anywhere you suggest for long term accomodation?

Any help would be great thank!

As much as possible! Just checked the BUNAC website and their current minimum is £500 - but really you'll want to take a fair bit more if possible. I'd say triple that as you have no work arranged (or more if you can) - the SWAP centre should be of some assistance for where to look for both work & accommodation.

I think you should take at least C$4000. You will need to pay two months rent in advance when you find an apartment which will cost at least C$1100.
Craigslist is a good place to find an apartment. It is pretty competitive so you'll probably need to look at a lot of places.
Good luck!
