I am planning a road trip from Bratislava with a group of 5 or 6 people. Does anyone:
1. have a decent hostel they can recommend?
2. know what the roads are like? I have driven in western Slovakia, but the mountains and Poland are a mystery to me.
I assume you're referring to hostels in Krakow. I spent 2 nights there last summer and we stayed at Peregrinus, in Zwinierzca street or something. It is a very nice hostel with helpful staff, and just a 5 minutes walk from the old city. It's located near the Planty, the gardens that go around Krakow.
About the roads... They're not too bad, yet slow. You can expect to find slow traffic on the way, so if a journey is supposed to take 5 hours, it could end up taking up to 7 hours. Slow traffic is particularly usual in Poland, or at least the part of the south.
Another nice place to stay is Greg and Toms hostel near the train station. Nice rooms and very friendly staff within blocks of city center.
I would also recommend Greg and Tom's hostel - it's a great little place in a central location near the square and railway station.
