Hi there,
I am planning to go to western part of USA in Dec. Is there any national parks that I can visit since it is the winter season?

You can go to most of the parks, just not certain parts. For example, you can go to Yosemite, but cannot go over the Tioga Pass. You can go to the Grand Canyon, but the places to camp out and the lodge at the North Rim are all closed--as is the road there--so just go to the South Rim. Some parks you cannot go to: I don't know about Arches or Canyonlands or Mesa Verde. Enjoy Here's the link to the National Park Service's site: http://www.nps.gov/ |

I know Yosemite is open - they ski there in winter and the lodge has a big Christmas dinner each year. I also believe Sequoia/Kings Canyon is open for winter sports. Both in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California bordering Nevada. Google the "US National Park Service" website for complete info. |

All the Utah parks are open all winter. Same with Mesa Verde. Not all facilities are open however. Same as most Nat'l Parks, the visitor centers close for Christmas and New Year. I have some late winter photos of Bryce in my photo gallery. Fall/winter is the best time to visit the Utah parks IMO. Not so hot & fewer visitors. Go and enjoy. |

Hi guys! Thanks for the information. I was hoping to do some short hikes in the national park but seemed like Dec is not the right season. Nonetheless, I'll still go through all the websites and your recommendations and decide if I'm still going ahead in Dec! |
