Hi,

Im in the process of getting some travel items together for my trip to Oz next year. I was wondering whether anyone could give some advice on what to take and no to take, keeping items dry, keeping items safe, things you found useful etc..

Thanks for any help in advance..
Gaz

Hi,

Im off 2morrow to Oz - YAY via dubai n sinapore

i have arranged my backpack by buying lots of those plastic mesh zipper bags in all sizes by EAGLE CREEK - avalaible in most outdoor shops, one for tops, noe for trousers, one for medical stuff, one for my day back etc. so that should keep tings dry, together n easy to find what u want. I've got a silk sleeping sheet - very small light and compact, also drawstring bin bags as waterproof liner for things, n as a laundry bag too.

a small maglite torch to find things eg: when in hostel n it dark n everyone sleeping etc

not sure how useful or if u will need them - im sure others will add their comments but universal sink plug n a travel wash line.

copies of ur documents in different places , incase they get stolen, lost , damaged etc, ive also copied my documents onto a cd as extra backup.

cant think off top of my head what else, but i hope this helps - oh n get good insurance too - travellers contact point is good - covers many hazerdous activietes and working as well, if u choose the downunder backpacker option.

good luck

Jem

Hi Gaz,
That's good advice from Jem.
Get photocopies of your passport, driving licence etc and put them in a plastic bag. I got some 'ziploc' ones which are waterproof.
A swiss army knife or multitool will be useful, but remember to check it in, or you'll lose it like I did!
Get loads of small containers for your toiletries - don't carry full shampoo bottles and deodorants. Fill small bottles and top up as you go.
Think light, and small.
Don't buy one of those Pac Safe wire covers for your pack. What does that tell a thief about its contents ? Just don't let it out of your sight unless it's locked away.
