Quoting Swept Away
Might as well go to ZHEJIANG PROVINCE to visit HANGZHOU and the famous lake.
or suzhou, which is closer to Shanghai.
Actually, I am also thinking about Nanjing, Im off to Shanghai very soon. I have seen photos of Nanjing in the newspaper last year and I'm expecting it to be shiny and new, and then some spaces will be ancient.
i made it Nanjing, and yes it is worth it....
I just got from the war memorial... i hate war memorials, but I love architecture and great lightings, and the sculpture gardens...
I am visiting Shanghai in September and am looking for some side trips I can do from there. I already have a few places in mind, but was wondering if Nanjing is worth visiting, and if so would it make sense to go just for a day or 2? How long does it take to get there from Shanghai by train/bus?
Not really. Hangzhou might be a better choice. 1.5 hour by express train.
I spend a week in Nanjing last month...
and when I look back, I liked it better than Shanghai. I dont know if its just psychological, but Shanghai feels like it is so HUGE, while the central part of Nanjing has the feel of a small city. Its the same feeling I got when I visited Hangzhou. I tree lined streets, and this cities this nice huge trees on the streets.
Its subway has only one line and I love that!
You dont feel lost and you think you can see everything.
nanjing deserves paying a visit. it's too hot in summer and too cold in winter, the optimun time should be in between.
it has a lot of historic ruins there, u can especially trace the ming dynasty architectural flavour. it's a great city.
